50 | Dealing With Other People’s Emotions - Third Pillar of Emotional Regulation
Many compassionate givers have the ability to pick up other people's emotions on an intuitive level. This can be a powerful implicit 'tool' in learning about others and what might need to be done at the moment. And this ability can be both a strength, but also a weakness at times, as it can lead to exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed when we least expect it.
And, not only that, but many people believe that we actually need to somehow "fix" other people's emotions. The myth of making someone happy, although very enticing, can backfire, because no one can make anyone happy 100% - for the simple reason that no one can be inside of any other person's inner universe and existence!
And trying to constantly please others can be a long unsuccessful endeavor, and a draining one (leading to burnout).
If you are resonating with this, you might wonder: Is there a way to use this gift and extraordinary ability to emphasize without feeling drained?
Listen to this episode where I share the connection between our emotions and those of others and what you can do so you can continue to give and care for others while being able to keep your emotions regulated.
