What Am I Eating For? Developing Conscious Eating Habits for Mind and Soul, with Christina Veselak

The balance of mind, body, heart, and soul is precious. We often consider feeding the soul and mind with reading and prayer, but how often do you consider eating to nourish your mind and soul?
There are always times when we find ourselves eating unhealthier. Usually, those times are when we're stressed out, when life seems out of control, and we have very little time to think about much else than what is in front of us.
And this is exactly when we should pause and ask ourselves, "What am I eating for?"
In this episode of the Thriving In Christ show (as a Renewal Conversation), I speak with Christina Veselak. We discuss food and how what we put into our bodies affects us on many levels.
Christiana is a counselor, mental health nutritionist, and a priest's wife. In her work, she is addressing many of the biochemical aspects of mental health and addictive disorders, including sugar, using dietary and supplement recommendations.
✨ Her favorite bible verse: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23
In this episode, Christina poses crucial questions about nourishing ourselves and gives practical tips on renewing our bodies through food.
✨ How to feed our bodies and our minds on a cellular level.
✨ How to connect food with conscious thought.
✨ Discovering a new way to think about food and incorporating this practice into your daily routines.
✨ Practical tips to help you eat to nourish yourself.
💡 TIP FOR THE UPCOMING WEEK:
Often, we reach for the 'easy' meal, craving processed sugar and something that gives us a short burst of dopamine. It's not always bad to indulge, but notice how you feel a few hours later, the next day, or even the next few days.
Being a conscious eater means understanding how food works with your mind, body, heart, and soul.
Try these tips to start on your path of conscious eating.
1. For a quick fix, find 'easy' fresh fruit or vegetables and leave them in plain sight on a counter or refrigerator shelf.
2. Before reaching for indulgent food, take a breath and ask yourself if you really want to eat it.
3. Monitor your eating patterns for a week without changing your habits. Taking notice of what you are putting into your body will help your mind start to connect with conscious eating.
